Body

Issue/Request:

An Ordinance approving Amendment No. 1 to the Budget for the Fiscal Year ending June 30, 2023, as adopted by Ordinance No. 9441, Ordinance No. 9442, Ordinance No. 9449, Ordinance No. 9450, and Ordinance No. 9451, by amending the authorized expenditures for the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Key Issues:

-Costs of construction materials have increased dramatically since plans were initiated for building new Fire Stations 4 and 5.

-Updated projected costs of Fire Stations No. 4 and No. 5 now exceed the allocated funds from the general obligation bonds approved by the citizens of Lee's Summit on August 6, 2019.

-The City received funds from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 that are eligible for use for general government services.

-The City currently has a fund balance in the General Fund beyond that necessary for immediate budget needs.

-The request is to use $4.1 million dollars of the ARPA funds and $4.1 million dollars of the General Fund balance to cover the costs that exceed the amount covered by the general obligation bonds for the two fire stations.
