Title

Presentation / Discussion: Lee's Summit Economic Development Council Status and Report

Body

Issue/Request:

Presentation / Discussion - Lee's Summit Economic Development Council status and report

Key Issues:

At the February 6, 2024 City Council meeting during Council Comments, discussion was held regarding the status of the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council (LSEDC) and the efforts that are underway to reset and reposition the LSEDC, as well as the direction that should be pursued for economic development in Lee's Summit.

Mayor Baird requested to place this presentation/discussion item on the February 13 City Council agenda on Wednesday February 7.  The LSEDC was notified of this agenda item being requested on February 7, and with Council packet deadlines being that same day, this packet has been created.  The LSEDC may be providing information to include in the packet, however given the timing of the packet deadlines, no information or attachments have been included.  Should the LSEDC wish to provide information or documentation in advance of the February 13 meeting, the agenda will be amended and the information will be included when received.

For informational awareness, the Economic Development Organization (EDO) Best Practices report and the EDO Recommendations report have been included in this packet.  These reports were prepared by Thomas P. Miller and Associates which were commissioned by the City to provide considerations in moving forward with economic development functions within Lee's Summit.
