Presentation: Progress Update on the Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity's Home Preservation Program funded through CDBG monies

In March 2020, City staff proposed to the Community and Economic Development Council (CEDC) that Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity use Community Development Block Grant Funds (CDBG) to offer Lee's Summit qualified homeowners a home repair program in place of the City's Minor Home Repair Program. Staff determined that this transition would result in an increased number of improvements/homeowners benefiting from the program due to Habitat's resources (volunteer labor, donations, etc.), as well as an increase in the types of improvements that could be made. This recommendation was adopted as a part of the CDBG 2020-21 Annual Action Plan by City Council in April 2020, and Habitat was awarded $125,500.
As of January 2022, Habitat has completed work on 9 homes ($68,497.22), with 6 currently in progress that will be completed by March 2022. By this date all 2020-21 funding will be invoiced and 15 households will benefit from the funding.
Habitat was awarded another $125,500 as a part of the CDBG 2021-22 Annual Action Plan. They will begin working on this second round of funding as soon as the 2020-21 funds are expended.
