Body

Issue/Request:

The City needs multiple off site housing facilities for Lee’s Summit municipal offenders due to continually changing capacity levels. Johnson County Detention Center is currently utilized by the city to accommodate this need. The current contract with Johnson County Detention Center has expired, but new terms have been agreed upon. The term of this Agreement shall be in full force and effect for a period of one (1) year from the date of this Agreement and will automatically renew for one (1) successive one (1) year period unless either party notifies the other of its intent not to renew at least sixty (60) days prior to the end of the current term.

 

 

Proposed City Council Motion:

FIRST MOTION:  I move for second reading of an Ordinance authorizing execution of an intergovernmental agreement for confinement of prisoners by and between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Johnson County, Missouri by and through the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

 

SECOND MOTION:  I move for adoption of an ordinance authorizing execution of an intergovernmental agreement for confinement of prisoners by and between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Johnson County, Missouri by and through the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

 

 

Impact/Analysis:

This agreement would continue to assist in giving the City a sufficient number of facilities to utilize to fulfill its needs. The City also currently has agreements for the offsite housing of prisoners with Andrew County, Missouri and Pettis County, Missouri detention centers.
