A Resolution expressing the opposition of the Council of the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri to the location of a landfill or other facility involved in solid waste hauling near the City's border.

Issue/Request:
Over a year ago, the City learned that efforts were in motion to place a landfill near the city's southwest border in the vicinity of Hwy 150 and Horridge Rd. This location is just outside the City's border and just outside of the one-half mile limit that would allow the City to have significant input in the location of the facility. During the legislative session last year, a number of bills were brought forward that would have addressed the issue; however, nothing of significance became law. Bills have been pre-filed for the 2024 session of the Missouri Legislature to address the issue once again.
This resolution renews the City's opposition to a landfill in this location and further expands the opposition to any facility involved in solid waste hauling. Staff along with our lobbyist will be monitoring the progress of the bills as they move through the legislative process.
Proposed City Council Motion:
I move for approval of A Resolution expressing the opposition of the Council of the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri to the location of a landfill or other facility involved in solid waste hauling near the City's border.
