An Ordinance amending Chapter 29; Traffic and Motor Vehicles, of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri, by amending Appendix B, Schedule of Stopping, Standing and Parking Restrictions, for certain streets and segments of streets located in the City of Lee's Summit.
Key Issues:
These changes to Appendix B, Schedule of Stopping, Standing, and Parking Restrictions, were requested by the downtown merchants in the interest of consistency and economic vitality.
Proposed Committee Motion:
I move to recommend to City Council approval of an Ordinance amending Chapter 29; Traffic and Motor Vehicles, of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri, by amending Appendix B, Schedule of Stopping, Standing and Parking Restrictions, for certain streets and segments of streets located in the City of Lee's Summit.

FIRST MOTION: I move for a second reading of an Ordinance amending Chapter 29; Traffic and Motor Vehicles, of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri, by amending Appendix B, Schedule of Stopping, Standing and Parking Restrictions, for certain streets and segments of streets located in the City of Lee's Summit.
SECOND MOTION: I move for adoption of an Ordinance amending Chapter 29; Traffic and Motor Vehicles, of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri, by amending Appendix B, Schedule of Stopping, Standing and Parking Restrictions, for certain streets and segments of streets located in the City of Lee's Summit.
Background:
The Board of Directors of Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street has requested that the unrestricted parking on SE Main and SW Main Streets be restricted to two hours. The main reason for the change is consistency for on-street parking and to support the growth in dining and retail on the west side of downtown. The majority of on-street parking in downtown is currently marked for two hours with the exception of both Main Streets. Several of the merchants have complained about the lack of parking for customers and visitors to downtown. Parking of more than two hours will still be available in public parking lots and the city garage.
Impact/Analysis:
This amendment implements a two hour restriction on parking and provides consistency throughout downtown. This change improves access to downtown businesses and has little effect on long term parking. Parking for more than two hours can still be found in public lots and the garage.
