Presentation: Ignite! Community Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor (CSF) - Collaborative Relations With Education Partners.

Issue/Request:

Staff will be providing an overview of the Ignite! Strategic Plan - Collaborative Relations With Education Partners Critical Success Factor, along with the associated implementation plan, and provide updates on efforts toward these initiatives.

 

Key Issues:

The City's Ignite! Strategic Plan was completed in June of 2019, and an implementation plan completed in August of 2020.   The Ignite! Strategic Plan contains seven critical success factors (areas of focus) that provide a framework for objectives, strategies and action items along with guidance on the stakeholders involved in implementation.

 

Attached to this packet is the Ignite! Community Strategic Plan Summary Report, along with the Strategic Plan Implementation Report for reference.

 

From a City organization perspective, efforts to collaborate and partner with education partners include the following:

Police Department:

- IMPACT/DARE - programs focused on improving youth decision-making, resiliency, and character.

- Youth Court - diversion program designed on the concept of “positive peer pressure” where offenders are defended, tried, judged, convicted or exonerated by a court comprised of other youths

- Youth Advisory Board - the police department actively works with the LSR7/Lee's Summit CARES Youth Advisory Board

- Herndon Career Center - Chief Forbes serves on the Herndon Career Center Law Enforcement/Police Science Board. LSR7 students attend the Herndon Career Center.

- Junior Citizen's Academy - while not sponsored by LSR7, most of the participants in the PD's Junior Citizen's Academy are students from the district.

- Police Explorer Program - while not sponsored by LSR7, most of the participants in the Police Explorer Program are students from the district.

- School Resource Officers - uniformed officers increasing school safety and community interaction with the student population.

 

Fire Department:

- Monthly safety and operations coordinat.ion meetings with LSR7 staff

- Continuing collaborative discussions with the LSR7 school district on a partnership to create a gateway program into the fire service.

 

Public Works:

- Summit Technology Academy (STA) engineering program

- STA aviation related programs (in progress)

- Potential partnership for hangar / educational facility on airport property

 

Administration:

- M-291 North and US 50 Hwy interchange and Missouri State Highway Patrol relocation

- Opposition to potential landfill in south Kansas City

- Jackson County Assessments

- Development of Property Reserve, Inc. acreage (approximately 4,200 acres)

- Economic Development incentives and community growth
