Body

Issue/Request:

Over the last three years staff has reviewed several of the City’s citizen boards, committees and commissions against the 2020 Ignite! Strategic Plan Critical Success Factors, and determined that in some instances duties and authorities of these boards, committees and commissions were overlapping or redundant. To increase efficiency and administrative support of boards and commissions, staff has recommended that the Human Services Advisory Board, Health Education Advisory Board and Livable Streets Advisory Board be combined to form a new Wellness Commission. To accomplish this goal, it is necessary to repeal certain ordinances and resolutions in order to effectively form the new Wellness Commission and sunset the Human Services Advisory Board, Health Education Advisory Board and Livable Streets Advisory Board.

 

 

Proposed Council Motion:

 

FIRST MOTION: I move for second reading of an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances by enacting a new Division 4. Wellness Commission. of Article V. Boards and Commissions. of Chapter 2. Administration. of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, consisting of two new sections related to the establishment of a new Wellness Commission and repealing certain ordinances, resolutions and sections of the municipal code in order to consolidate certain existing boards and commissions into the newly created Wellness Commission.

 

SECOND MOTION: I move for adoption of an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances by enacting a new Division 4. Wellness Commission. of Article V. Boards and Commissions. of Chapter 2. Administration. of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, consisting of two new sections related to the establishment of a new Wellness Commission and repealing certain ordinances, resolutions and sections of the municipal code in order to consolidate certain existing boards and commissions into the newly created Wellness Commission.

Committee Recommendation

A motion was made by Councilmember Prier, seconded by Vice Chair Shields, that this Ordinance be recommended for approval to the City Council. A motion was made by Vice Chair Shields, seconded by Councilmember Lovell to amend the Ordinance to 13 members. The motion carried unanimously. Councilmember Prier amended her original motion to include the amendment, Vice Chair Sheilds amended her second that this Ordinance be recommended for approval to the City Council as amended. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
