Title
Presentation: City Beautification Programs and Resources

Body
Issue/Request:
Discussion of current beautification programs and resources related to litter control and managed by the City and area partners. This presentation serves to inform, empower and engage citizens committed to keeping Lee’s Summit beautiful.
Key Issues:
*High-level discussion of current beautification programs offered by the City, MODOT and Beautification Commission.
*Highlight beautification initiatives and programs implemented by other cities.
*Discuss both short- and long-term opportunities to increase community awareness of, and participation in, current beautification programs.

Background:
Lee’s Summit residents take pride in preserving the visual appeal and aesthetics of our neighborhoods, parks and rights-of-way. We value the dedicated residents who raise concerns about litter and debris in our public areas and request either assistance or support in having these areas cleaned. These concerns mean that our community cares and is committed to ensuring that our city remains beautiful. The challenge is how to increase awareness of the available beatification efforts and ways in which citizens can be involved in the process.
At the request of the Mayor, Glenda Masters, Cultural Arts Manager and staff liaison to the Beautification Commission, will provide an overview of the various “cleanup” and beautification resources coordinated by the Commission, City departments, and MODOT.
In addition, as council members have changed, this presentation serves as an opportunity to inform council of available resources that may serve helpful when responding to citizen concerns and inquiry.

Impact/Analysis:
Information shared in this presentation serves to inform elected officials and the public on the City’s current beautification and litter control resources. Additionally, feedback from elected officials will help provide the framework for developing process improvements.
