An Ordinance amending Section 2-45. Public Comments. of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri to remove the requirement that a person wishing to address the City Council provide a physical address and instead requiring that person to indicate whether or not he or she is a resident of Lee's Summit.

This ordinance amends section 2-45 Public Comments. to remove the requirement that a person seeking to address the City Council provide a physical address and instead requires that a person indicate whether or not he or she is a resident of the City. At a recent City Council meeting a member of the public requested to be given permission not to provide a physical address due to security and safety concerns. Council discussed the requirement and directed staff to bring forward an ordinance that removes the requirement. This ordinance meets the request of the Council. Staff, however, did include a requirement for a person to indicate whether or not he or she was a resident of the City.
Proposed City Council Motion:
I move for adoption of an Ordinance amending Section 2-45. Public Comments. of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri to remove the requirement that a person wishing to address the City Council provide a physical address and instead requiring that person to indicate whether or not he or she is a resident of Lee's Summit.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval.
