Title
A Resolution expressing support for the Missouri River Runner Train Service from Amtrak and urging the State of Missouri to fully fund two round-trip trains with stops at the Lee’s Summit Station. (LIRC 1/20/22)
Body
Issue/Request:
On January 3, the Missouri River Runner Amtrak train service was reduced from two trains daily stopping at the Lee’s Summit Station to only one train daily. During the last few years while the state has struggled with Covid-19, ridership fell substantially and along with it, revenue from the service. In order to maintain the full schedule during this period, the Federal Government provided Covid relief funds. At this time, the Covid relief funds have been exhausted and no further funding has been provided by the Congress or the State.
This resolution supports the Missouri River Runner Amtrak service and urges the State of Missouri to restore funding for two trains per day with stops at the Lee’s Summit Station.
Proposed City Council Motion:
I move to approve a Resolution expressing support for the Missouri River Runner Train Service from Amtrak and urging the State of Missouri to fully fund two round-trip trains with stops at the Lee’s Summit Station
Presenter
Brian Head, City Attorney
