An Ordinance authorizing the approval of a Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Agreement in the amount of $69,000 through Title XII of the Division B of the CARES Act for the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport for the purchase of 107 airfield light mats for lighting on Runway 18/36 and the threshold lights for approximately $23,000 and the remaining funds, of approximately $46,000 will be applied towards offsetting ongoing operating expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and authorizing the Mayor to execute the same by and on behalf of the City of Lee's Summit.
Key Issues:
Title XII of Division B of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Agreement program provides approximately $10 billion to support U.S. airports experiencing severe economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 public health emergency. This funding will be distributed to airports like Lee's Summit Municipal to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of the COVID-19 public health emergency. Reliever airports like Lee's Summit were allocated $69,000 each. SECOND MOTION: I move for adoption of an Ordinance authorizing the approval of a Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act Agreement in the amount of $69,000 through Title XII of the Division B of the CARES Act for the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport for the purchase of 107 airfield light mats for lighting on Runway 18/36 and the threshold lights for approximately $23,000 and the remaining funds, of approximately $46,000 will be applied towards offsetting ongoing operating expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and authorizing the Mayor to execute the same by and on behalf of the City of Lee's Summit.
Background:
Funding from this program will be used to install rubber matting around the airfield lighting for Runway 18/36. The installation of these mats not only speed up mowing operations around the lights, eliminates the need for line trimming and the application of herbicides, but also minimizes the number of mowing cycles needed should one of the two airport facilitate maintenance personnel be off due to COVID-19
Impact/Analysis:
Unlike most FAA/MoDOT grants, these funds do not have a local match and can be used for airport operations.
