Title

Solid Waste Overview

Body

Issue/Request:

Discussion of approaches to solid waste management.

Key Issues:

*High-level discussion of approaches and issues

*Check-in to make sure everyone is on the same page

*Not a discussion of the specific responses received to the Transfer Station RFP

Background:

Solid waste management has been an ongoing issue for the City for years. A transfer station was recommended as long ago as 2006 for a solution to local solid waste disposal after closure of the landfill.  The City is pursuing a transfer station on  the City's property but before proceeding with in-depth contract negotiations, it is important to be sure that there is still a consensus on the goals and expectations for the project. In addition, as council members have changed, there may be interest in other approaches to solid waste management in Lee's Summit.

Impact/Analysis:

Feedback from elected officials will help provide the framework for proceeding on the transfer station project and may identify interest in other opportunities for solid waste programs.
