Presentation of the Lee's Summit Police Department Future Plan

 

Key Issues:

Establishing a strategy to meet the policing needs of the City of Lee’s Summit as it continues to develop and grow.  A plan is needed to maintain and improve the safety of the City to assure that it continues to be attractive for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Background:

The City of Lee’s Summit continues to grow, with thousands of developable acres recently made available.  As the population, retail, commercial, and industrial footprints all grow, there will be a need for expanded policing services.  The staff of the Police Department conducted extensive studies and evaluations to determine potential expansions to meet these needs.  Rather than be reactive to the challenges after the fact, a plan to prepare for needs in advance and summarized in a document titled the “LSPD Blueprint.”  Core features of the Blueprint include establishing a larger proactive policing presence, improving response to mental health and addiction, addressing capital needs and enhancing existing services.
