SECOND MOTION: I move for adoption of an ordinance authorizing the execution of Modification No. 1 to agreement dated March 16, 2017 (RFQ No. 196-31583) for professional engineering services for Winterset Woods & Sterling Hills Trunk Sewer Main project by and between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc., for an increase of $48,436.00 with Basic Services amended not to exceed amount of $252,468.00 and Basic Services and Optional Services amended not to exceed amount of $255,668.00.
Background:
An agreement between the City and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc. was executed on March 16, 2017 for professional engineering design services of the Winterset Woods & Sterling Hills Trunk Sewer Main project. Burns & McDonnell has provided the City with the Scope of Basic Services outlined in the original agreement, except for preparing post-construction record drawings for City records.
The City has advertised and is proposing to award the replacement of Winterset Woods & Sterling Hills Trunk Sewer Main to Beemer Construction Company. The Contractor will be required to submit shop drawings from fabricators and materials certifications from suppliers that must be reviewed by Burns & McDonnell to ensure conformance with the project’s plans and specifications. Other engineering support during construction will include plan revisions as needed based on actual conditions in the field, reviewing change orders, answering questions related to the project design, performing site visits to review streambank stabilization and restoration requirements, and attending periodic construction progress meetings.
The total project budget of $1,600,000, funded from the Sewer Tap Fund ($565,000) and the Sewer Construction Fund ($1,035,000), is adequate to provide the additional funds for the proposed professional engineering services during construction. Having appropriate engineering services during construction follows the current standards of practice for engineering and construction quality assurance.
