Economic Impact Analysis of the Kansas City Region's 65+ Population

Key Issues:
The number of seniors in the Greater Kansas City area will increase by 233,000 between 2010 and 2030, and the older adult workforce will nearly double. How will these changes affect the regional economy? Jeff Pinkerton, Senior Researcher at Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), will present information on a study conducted in 2015 on our region's changing demographics and the positive impact older adults have on our economy.

Background:
*June 23, 2016 - Cathy Boyer-Shesol gave an introductory presentation to the City Council on the Community for All Ages Program.
*July 7, 2016 - City Council approved Resolution 16-16 to support the Communities for All Ages Initiative and Recognition Program.
*June 27, 2017 - Cathy Boyer-Shesol and representatives from the City of Raymore presented on the Community for All Ages Program and Lessons and Reflections from a Recognition Recipient at the Planning Commission.


Other Information/Unique Characteristics:
Staff is working on a community-wide survey and anticipating the survey running from approximately July 14 - August 18, 2017.

Presenter: Jeff Pinkerton, Senior Researcher at Mid-America Regional Council (MARC)
Jeff has served as the Senior Researcher for the Mid-America Regional Council for 17 years. In that capacity, he tracks economic and demographic trends in the Kansas City area. His duties include the bi-annual Greater Kansas City Economic Forecast, providing data and analysis on the Kansas City area workforce for the Regional Workforce Intelligence Network and managing MARC’s economy website, KCeconomy.com.
In analyzing the Kansas City area workforce, Jeff has studied regional migration patterns, labor market information, workforce supply gaps and the region’s industrial strengths and weaknesses.
