Presentation & Discussion - Parking Regulations - Recreational Vehicles, Boats, Trailers
Key Issues:
At the October 11, 2017 Community & Economic Development Committee (CEDC) staff presented a parking regulation matrix depicting the types of items allowed to be parked in various driveway configurations based on current Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) regulations. The CEDC provided staff feedback to further refine the matrix with overall general comments summarized below:
- the matrix/table was too busy, could consolidate trailers & recreational vehicles
- safety should be incorporated as a consideration for regulating parking of these types of items
- generally not supportive of being overly regulatory unless for safety reasons
- attempt to craft parking regulations for the City as a whole since property owner associations are typically more restrictive
- storage of recreational vehicles should only be allowed to be stored on pads adjacent to driveways - not in front of homes
- the duration recreational vehicles may be parked is important
- inclination to allow one item stored year round but not in a single car drive
- should consider a seasonal provision or duration to allow for more than one item to be parked on the premises
- not in favor of restricting more than we need to (safety is priority)
After receiving this feedback staff has revised the storage/parking matrix and will present the information to the CEDC for further discussion and consideration.
Proposed City Council Motion:
No formal motion necessary at this time. Staff is continuing to solicit CEDC feedback and input on the proposed revisions and regulations developed thus far.
