World Cup 2026 Planning Discussion - Development Services: Short Term Rentals
Key Issues:
This is a discussion over the short term rental ordinance to consider temporary changes to the existing ordinance in preparation for the 2026 World Cup. This discussion is intended to explain the current requirements and approval processes, share information on what other municipalities are doing in preparation of the World Cup, and provide several recommendations along with pros/cons prepared by Staff.
Background:
The Kansas City Region is a host region for the 2026 World Cup and is expected to welcome 650,000 visitors throughout the duration of the tournament. In preparation for this event and visitors to the area, a review of existing regulations is necessary.
