Issue/Request:
The Fire Department is currently utilizing Stryker Pro stair chairs that are nearing the end of their life cycle. The desire is to replace the current items on all ambulances with the Expedition stair chair. Our current chairs have a track without power and must be carried upstairs. Going downstairs is gravity-assisted. The Expedition model is battery-powered and allows for safer patient movement via the device's powered track system. This system increases patient and crew safety by improving ergonomics and decreasing the need to manually lift and maneuver the device, especially upstairs. Going down a set of stairs, the firefighters control the speed to allow safer movement. The Expedition stair chair also provides onboard lighting that illuminates dark stairwells and the general path of the device.
Key Issues:
The funding for this project is included in the Public Safety Sales Tax budget, which was approved as part of the FY 2026 budget. This quote is for the package of 11 Expedition stair chairs, batteries, chargers and batteries.
Proposed City Council Motion:
FIRST MOTION: I move for a second reading of an Ordinance approving an agreement between the City of Lee's Summit and Stryker and utilizing the Savvik Co-operative Contract to purchase 11 Expedition stair chairs and associated materials for the Fire Department in the amount of $191,378.56 and authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement for the same.
