Title

Ordinance: World Cup Claw Back

Body

Issue/Request:

In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the City adopted temporary amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and Chapter 29 of the City Code addressing special events, mobile food vendors, temporary signs, play streets, and parade permits. These provisions were intended to help manage increased activity and City resource demands during the tournament period and were effective from June 1 through July 31, 2026.

With the World Cup concluded and the temporary regulatory period expired, the provisions no longer serve a practical purpose. Staff is proposing their formal repeal as an administrative housekeeping measure to keep the UDO and City Code current, concise, and free of obsolete language. The repeal will not change the regulations currently applicable to these activities.

Presenter

C. Shannon McGuire, Assistant Director of Plan Services

Recommendation

Staff recommends CEDC direction to proceed with amendments that would repeal the 2026 FIFA World Cup provisions contained within the UDO and Chapter 29 of the City Code of Ordinances.
