An Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement by and between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Jackson County, Missouri to provide for the collection of property taxes by the City of Lee's Summit.

Issue/Request:
Beginning in 2007 and until 2024 the City of Lee's Summit was able collect taxes for residents at City Hall. Following a series of events the County cancelled the contract with the City and we were no longer able to collect taxes. This ordinance reinstates the ability of the City to collect property taxes at City Hall. The Agreement specifies that the City will begin collection activities on August 1, 2026. In years past, the City was given access to collect taxes and make some corrections to a resident's tax bill; however, due to changes in the County system the City will be only be allowed to collect taxes and not make any corrections to tax bills. The City will receive the 1% fee for collection as it did in the past.
Proposed City Council Motion:
I move for second reading of bill no. XXX entitled "An Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement by and between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Jackson County, Missouri to provide for the collection of property taxes by the City of Lee's Summit."
