Title

An Ordinance approving a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, through the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Junior College District of Metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri outlining the mutual sheltering and reunification agreement for the Metropolitan Community College and authorizing the Mayor to execute the same.

Body

Issue/Request:

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation and Metropolitan Community College - Longview have agreed to be mutual sheltering locations for emergency situations.

Proposed City Council Motion:

I move for second reading of an Ordinance approving a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, through the Parks and Recreation Board, and the Junior College District of Metropolitan Kansas City, Missouri outlining the mutual sheltering and reunification agreement for the Metropolitan Community College and authorizing the Mayor to execute the same.

Background:

As part of the LSPR emergency action plan, Longview Community Center (LVCC) needs a reunification site in case of evacuation. Currently, LVCC uses CVS and McDonald's. Metropolitan Community College - Longview (MCC-Longview) is also in need of a reunification and sheltering location for its campus. This agreement would benefit both the patrons of LVCC and the students, staff, and faculty of MCC-Longview. The Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Board unanimously approved the MOU at the September 24, 2025 Parks and Recreation Board meeting. Because this is an intergovernmental agreement it does require City Council approval.

Presenter
