Title
Discussion: MoDOT Sponsor-A-Highway Program
Body
Issue/Request:
Discussion: MoDOT Sponsor-A-Highway Program
Key Issues:
Consideration of City participation in the MoDOT Sponsor-A-Highway Program and alternatives such as a community awareness campaign or activities that encourage community program participation.
Background:
This item was sent to the Public Works Committee for discussion. It was initially presented during the annual Clean Team Update to the City Council, then subsequent information was provided by Staff, as requested by City Council, to City Council regarding program costs for a conceptual segment of US 50 Highway.
Impact/Analysis:
Financial costs are described in the associated packet(s). Generally, about $43,000 per year in cost for City participation in the program. That cost would include cleaning US50 Highway from I470 to M291 North Interchange once a month. The price is discounted for the City and would be more expensive for another entity application. The cost can vary based on the scope of work; including distance and frequency of litter pick-up.
Timeline:
Participation by the City or any other business, organization or entity can be initiated at any time through MoDOT and its vendor for services.
Other Information/Unique Characteristics:
The program excludes I470 because I470 litter management is already contracted by MoDOT. Sponsor-A-Highway is a contracted service, provided by a MoDOT selected vendor. The vendor does provide performance reports of services rendered.
