Annual Election of Officers

Issue/Request:
In accordance with Article 3 of the Planning Commission Bylaws, the Commission is required to conduct its annual election of officers at the second regular meeting in June.
The Planning Commission elects four officers from among its members:
Chairperson
Vice-Chairperson
Secretary
Assistant Secretary
Nominations are made from the floor and elections follow immediately thereafter. To be elected, a candidate must receive a majority vote of the entire membership of the Commission. Officers serve a one-year term or until their successors are elected.
The Chairperson serves as the presiding officer of the Commission. In the Chairperson’s absence, duties are assumed in the following order:
1) Vice-Chairperson
2) Secretary
3) Assistant Secretary
4) Acting Chairperson selected by the members present
Any vacancy occurring during the year is filled through the same election process. Additional information regarding officer duties and responsibilities can be found in Article 3 of the Planning Commission Bylaws.

Recommendation: Staff recommends the Commission proceed with the annual election of officers in accordance with the adopted bylaws.
