Body

Issue/Request:

An Ordinance authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding by and between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and the Blue Springs R-IV School District for the IMPACT program.

Proposed Committee Motion:

I move to recommend to the City Council approval of an ordinance authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding by and between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and the Blue Springs R-IV School District for the IMPACT program.

Background:

The City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri (“City”) received a grant from the Jackson County COMBAT Drug Commission ("COMBAT grant")  to assist the City in defraying certain costs of the City's IMPACT program. The IMPACT program is an anti-drug and stress management curriculum built around a current and ever-changing culture that teaches students to make smart and healthy decisions using the core values of integrity, responsibility, respect, and prevention. The IMPACT program benefits District students at Chapel Lakes and Voy Spears Jr. Elementary Schools by providing education to resist the use of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and vaping, as well as, providing an understanding of the skills to manage stress, resist peer pressure, and control emotions during conflicts. Through the COMBAT grant and City funding, the City provides law enforcement officers who provide IMPACT education in the District elementary schools.
