An Ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances section 12-4. Use of City staff and resources prior to an election to modify the terms thereof to coincide with the first date of candidate filing.(Rules Committee 2/15/24)

 

Body

This ordinance amends section 12-4 of the City code to modify the beginning date of the guidelines for use of City Staff for district specific forums during the time that a City Council election is pending.  This provision was passed in 2018 and currently provides that no City staff and no City resources may be utilized to hold, support or promote a Council District specific forum after February 1 of any general municipal election year until after such election.  Staff was directed by the Rules Committee to modify the ordinance to initiate the prohibition during the entire election season beginning with the first day for candidate filing.  A specific date isn't included due to the fact that the first date for filing my change at the State legislative level during this session.

 

Recommendation: Staff recommends approval of this Ordinance
