Title
Presentation: 2020 Citizen's Leadership Academy Graduation Recognition
Body
The first Citizens Leadership Academy was held in 2011, in response to a suggestion from LS 360. This year marks the 9th academy. Participants in the 2020 Academy will be presented to the Mayor and Council.
The 2020 Citizens Leadership Academy has been completed. We began with 25 participants enrolled in the Academy and 18 were able to attend a majority of the "in person" sessions. After the COVID-19 pandemic began we were no longer able to hold those sessions. We then changed to Zoom meetings on Thursday evenings. The final session, held on Thursday, June 4th, included a mock city council meeting for the Pseudo City and discussed things such as; a medical marijuana dispensary special use permit, a preliminary development plan for a mega box store, a feral cat ordinance and much more. Participants held the positions of Councilmembers and Management Staff. Some even played the role of "concerned citizen".
City Staff stepped up again this year and enthusiastically participated in this program.
