Key Issues:

The Mill & Overlay program is a key element in the City's Pavement Maintenance Program
The Mill & Overlay program restores the pavement surface to its original specifications.
This year program will restore 35.9 lane miles.

Proposed City Council Motion:

I move for a second reading of AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE AWARD OF BID NO. 4401-20C FOR THE FY2017 MILL & OVERLAY PROGRAM TO SUPERIOR BOWEN ASPHALT COMPANY, L.L.C. AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO TO AN AGREEMENT FOR THE SAME IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,109,071.32.

I move for adoption of AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE AWARD OF BID NO. 4401-20C FOR THE FY2017 MILL & OVERLAY PROGRAM TO SUPERIOR BOWEN ASPHALT COMPANY, L.L.C. AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO TO AN AGREEMENT FOR THE SAME IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,109,071.32.

Background:

The Overlay Program is the most extensive and expensive maintenance process performed under the City's Pavement Maintenance Program. The process involves removing (milling) approximately 2" of asphalt surface, then replacing it with new asphalt. The Mill and Overlay process restores the street’s surface to its original smoothness and cross-slope specifications and reduces future construction expenses by delaying the need for complete reconstruction of a street.
