Key Issues:
-The purpose of the presentation is to give a status report on CARES Act funding disbursement activities
-The City was assigned $5,921,527 in CARES Act fund from Jackson County
-The Council originally was presented with the proposed CARES Act budget and a draft intergovernmental agreement on August 18, 2020 with final approval occurring on September 1, 2020
-Council Reallocated funds from Public Health to Economic Support In October to increase support of Small Businesses and Not-for-profit organizations
-City Staff has initiated or properly procured all items and services via CARES Act funding
-The Budget will require updating to reflect final expenses and administratively submitted to Jackson County for final approval
Proposed City Council Motion:
A City Council motion is not needed. This item is for presentation and discussion purposes. There will be ordinances following this item that will require City Council action.
Background:
-On March 27, 2020, the United States enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) which established the Coronavirus Relief Fund and appropriated $150 billion to the Fund.
-Jackson County, Missouri received $122.7 million from the Fund, and the County, through Ordinance 5372, has appropriated approximately $36.9 million of its CARES Act funding to the cities within its borders.
-Jackson County appropriated $5,921,527 to the City of Lee’s Summit.
-The initial approved, reallocated and final proposed budget per the six (6) CARES Act fund categories was:
