Presentation: Mayor and City Council Planning Retreat - Final Report

Key Issues:
On October 18 and October 19, 2024, the Mayor and City Council, as well as management team, participated in a team building & planning retreat facilitated by Everstrive Solutions. A primary goal of the retreat was to identify priorities and initiatives from the Strategic Plan and Comprehensive Plan to focus efforts toward over the next 1 - 2 years. Everstrive Solutions has compiled a summary report from the retreat and will present the results and findings for consideration.

Proposed City Council Motion:
If there is concurrence or consensus on the final report and identified priorities and initiatives, the Mayor and Council could move to accept the report and direct staff to prepare plans to bring forward for consideration.

Background:
In late 2018 through mid-2019 the City, along with community stakeholders developed and adopted a community strategic plan, along with a framework to implement the plan. The plan and framework were adopted in August of 2019 by Resolution 19-12.

In November 2019 through August of 2020 the City along with community stakeholders developed an Implementation Plan which was adopted in September of 2020 by Resolution 20-20.

In January 2020 through May of 2021, the City, along with community stakeholders developed a new Comprehensive Plan for the community which was adopted in May of 2021 by the Lee's Summit Planning Commission.
The City’s strategic plan is a relatively short-term roadmap (5 to 7-year plan) to move the community toward its intended long-term 20-year vision. Ultimately, a strategic plan is a fundamental management tool that exists to help the organization improve its delivery of services to the community.
