Discussion:

Discussion will outline the process and begin engagement with stakeholders to choose a new FBO Name at the Airport.

Background:

A key component of the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport (LXT) Business Plan is strengthening its brand identity. This involves not only renaming the airport but also rebranding the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) services at the Airport to appeal to and attract both general aviation (GA) and business aviation users.

A recent survey of local customers suggested potential FBO names such as Summit Aero Center, Summit Aviation, Summit Aviation Services, LeeAero, and Summit Jet Center. Notably, these options omit "Municipal" and "City of Lee's Summit" from the current FBO name, as these terms may create a perception among pilots of limited services.

With the ongoing construction of east side infrastructure and Hangar 2 projects, now is an opportune time to initiate the renaming process for both the airport and the FBO.

On July 8th, 2024, airport staff met with the Public Works Committee to discuss the renaming process and potential names. The committee recommended we continue the process and requested recommendations for City Council consideration. Airport staff will begin to engage with stakeholders, including BOAC, to develop potential names for the FBO.
