Body
Section 14.8 of the Charter of the City of Lee's Summit requires that every ten years the City for a Charter Review Commission. The last review occurred in 2016. In the past the appointment of the Commission generally occurs in the year prior to the actual work of the Commission. The Rules Committee reviewed the previous procedures and has recommended the attached Resolution to allow for applications, review and appointment of citizens interested in serving on the Charter Review Commission. The only procedural difference between this Resolution and previous similar efforts is the timing. In the past the nominations and appointments occurred later in the year. This Resolution will allow Citizens interested in serving to apply via the Board and Commissions Interest Form from July 9 through August 15. Councilmembers will then provide their nominations by September 9 and the full City Council will consider a resolution forming the Commission and appointing Commissioners on September 23. The Commission would begin its actual work shortly after January 1, 2026.
