Title
An Ordinance amending Article V. Boards, Commissions and Committees; Division 1. Generally., by enacting a new Section 2-266 Broadcast of Meeting, to provide for the recording and/or broadcast of certain Council, Committee, Board and Commission meetings. (Rules Committee 12/19/24)
Body
Issue/Request:
This Ordinance amends the code of ordinances to include a rule related to the broadcast of meetings. Previously, the City Council passed Resolution 21-09 that provided limited rules to govern which City bodies were to be broadcast and by what means. Since that time the number and types of boards and commissions has changed. Additionally, the technology available to the City has changed dramatically with more and varied platforms and availability of content. This ordinance updates the standards for what is recorded and for what is broadcast or streamed. Some boards and commissions that no longer exist were removed and new ones added. A definition for ad hoc committees has been included and the guidelines for broadcast have been made more specific. City Council, City Council Committees, Planning Commission and the Tax Increment Financing Commission all remain top priorities for live broadcast and recording. The Parks and Recreation Board meetings are to be recorded and made available via the City website but not necessarily broadcast live. The remainder of boards and commissions are asked to record the meetings when practicable so that they may be made available on the City website but are not required to do spo.
