Presentation - County Executive LeVota will present the City with $150,000 to be utilized toward the expansion of the Joseph A. Dyke all-inclusive playground at Legacy Park.
Key Issues:
The Jackson County, Missouri, County Executive has recommended, and the County Legislature has approved, appropriations from the County's undesignated fund balance for municipalities to utilize toward community projects and infrastructure needs. The City of Lee's Summit appropriation is $150,000 and will be utilized toward the purchase of playground equipment for the all-inclusive playground located at the Joseph A. Dyke playground in Legacy Park. Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation plans to expand the playground and the funds provided by Jackson County will ensure the full build out of the expansion which is scheduled to start in the fall of 2026.
Background:
In May of 2026, County Executive LeVota requested the City provide proposals to the County for use of $150,000 toward community projects or infrastructure. The funds were originally received by the County through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 and the County has subsequently determined these allocations are not considered ARPA funds and may be appropriated as is stipulated in Jackson County Ordinance No. 6092. The City provided proposals to the County for use of the funding and the County Executive and County Legislature has approved the use of the funding toward the Joseph A. Dyke playground expansion project as it serves patrons of all abilities throughout Lee's Summit and Eastern Jackson County.
