Proposed City Council Committee Motion:
I move to recommend to the City Council approval of an ordinance authorizing the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding by and between the City of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and the Missouri Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (“MoTERT”) for emergency telecommunication mutual aid and cooperation in response to natural and man-made disasters.

Background:
Both the Lee's Summit Police and Fire Departments have emergency communication centers for public safety. The Missouri Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (MO TERT) Committee was created to provide assistance in developing a program that would lead a trained and predetermined team of telecommunicators who can be mobilized quickly and deploy them to assist PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) during disasters. Due to the training and planning involved, an MOU between each center and MO TERT is recommended to be in place in case assistance is needed for our own agency or for trained Lee's Summit MO TERT telecommunicators to be deployed to another agency in need. Both the Lee's Summit Fire and Police Communications departments are requesting approval of the MOU to be better prepared and to provide assistance during disasters.
