An Ordinance approving a purchase order by the City of Lee’s Summit to Municipal Emergency Services (MES), for structural firefighting gear in the amount of $203,562.40 and authorizing the City Manager to execute all documents necessary to effectuate the same, by and on behalf of the City. Issue/Request:
This request will serve to replace 50 sets of structural firefighting gear, commonly known as bunker gear. This purchase will replace bunker gear that is currently in service that is at or past it's recommended end of life of 10 years of age. This will allow the department to maintain compliance with NFPA standards regarding bunker gear and ensuring all fire department personnel are issued gear that is within the recommended 10-year time frame.
Key Issues:
The Fire Department utilizes bunker gear for personnel protection when fighting structural or other types of fires, as well as many other response types that require that level of personal protection. The fire department has had in place for many years a replacement schedule in which the fire department buys bunker gear every budget year, which this purchase represents.
This agreement will allow the department the ability to order and issue the necessary amount of replacement bunker gear to outfit fire department personnel in gear that meets the replacement standard of 10-years. Utilizing an existing co-operative purchasing agreement through Sourcewell, contract #010424, member #37588, the terms of the agreement are one payment of $203,562.40 to MES for 50 sets of bunker gear.
Impact/Analysis:
This purchase will be funded by through funds that are allocated within the fire department's FY2026 budget.
Timeline:
Once approved and ordered the anticipated delivery will be approximately 9 weeks.
