Key Issues:
Pastor Dale L. Beasley, chairperson of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Planning Committee and a member of the Lee's Summit Human Relations Commission, will talk about the exciting plans for the 2017 celebration. He will also invite the members of the Lee's Summit City Council and public to attend the free annual event.
The theme of the event is "One Voice for Freedom" and will feature the keynote address from Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick. Performances will be by the students of the Lee's Summit R-7 School District and performers throughout the metropolitan area. There will also be an exhibit of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
The event will be held in the Pavilion at John Knox Village on Mon., Jan.16. The preshow starts at 5:30 p.m. and the program begins at 6 p.m.
Background:
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration is an annual event for the City of Lee's Summit and is one of the key activities of the City of Lee’s Summit’s Human Relations Commission.
