Title
An Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and the Missouri Department of Public Safety in the amount of $9,160.36 for equipment for the Lee's Summit Police Department and authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement for the same. (F&BC 6/2/25)
Body
Issue/Request:
The Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) is available to local government agencies through the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The Lee's Summit Police Department applied and was awarded $9,160.36 to use towards the purchase of a ballistic rifle-grade shield. The item will be utilized by our patrol officers to increase officer safety by doubling the number of rifle caliber shields available to department members. The Department currently has only one (1) rifle caliber shield. The addition of a second rifle-grade shield allows officers to be provided higher ballistic protection, allowing greater coverage of a threat area. Officers will have greater confidence when responding to armed disturbance priority calls, knowing the proper ballistic protection is available.
Proposed City Council Motion:
FIRST MOTION: I move for a second reading of the Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and the Missouri Department of Public Safety in the amount of $9,160.36 for equipment for the Lee's Summit Police Department and authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement for the same.
SECOND MOTION: I move for adoption of the Ordinance authorizing the execution of an agreement between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and the Missouri Department of Public Safety in the amount of $9,160.36 for equipment for the Lee's Summit Police Department and authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement for the same.
