Body

Issue/Request:

An Ordinance approving an agreement between the City of Lee's Summit, Missouri and DIGI Security Systems for the purchase of 1840W Custom Solar Powered Surveillance Trailers, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same of on behalf the City

Key Issues:

Surveillance trailers are an essential tool in enhancing security and deterring crime in various environments, from public spaces to construction sites and private properties. These mobile units provide a flexible, cost-effective solution for monitoring areas where traditional fixed surveillance systems may be impractical or insufficient. Equipped with high-definition cameras, motion sensors, and live monitoring capabilities, surveillance trailers act as a proactive security measure, allowing for real-time detection and response to suspicious activity. Their mere presence serves as a visual deterrent, discouraging potential criminals from engaging in illegal activities.

The portability of surveillance trailers makes them ideal for temporary or dynamic situations, such as large public events, construction projects, or disaster recovery zones. They can be rapidly deployed and relocated as needed, ensuring comprehensive coverage without the delays and costs associated with installing permanent systems. Moreover, modern trailers often integrate advanced technologies, such as AI-driven analytics and remote access, enabling efficient monitoring and reducing the burden on security personnel.

This ordinance authorizes the City Manager to enter into an agreement with DIGI Security Systems to provide three 1840W Custom Solar Powered Surveillance Trailers.

Impact/Analysis:

Surveillance trailers play a critical role in preventing crime and enhancing safety by providing a visible, adaptable, and technologically advanced means of monitoring vulnerable areas. Their ability to adapt to various environments and needs makes them an invaluable asset in today’s security landscape, offering peace of mind to businesses, communities, and individuals alike.

DIGI Security Systems participates with the TIPS cooperative #230202.  Funding for this safety enhancement is being provided by the unallocated General Fund balance.  A budget amendment was approved in January of 2025 giving city staff the spending authority to make the purchase.
