Body

Issue/Request:

Approval of an Ordinance approving an agreement for the construction of a metal building expansion for Water Utilities with Mar Building Solutions (sole source) in the amount of $544,199.00, and authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement for the same

Background:

The Water Utilities Service Center was constructed 6 years ago to house all of the employees and equipment of the Water Utilities Department.   The facility was designed for expansion as the staff and equipment grew.  The rear exterior of the facility has covered parking for city owned equipment, a material lay down yard and covered material storage for materials which need to remain dry.   The growth of the utility has reached a point where addition covered parking and covered material storage is now necessary.   The original structures where constructed under a contract with Fogel Anderson Construction by the local Butler Manufacturing metal building contractor Mar Building Solutions.   In order to stay with Butler Manufacturing and match the materials and color of the construction as well as leverage the existing site knowledge Mar Building Solutions has been selected to construct this project.

Key Issues:

1. Mar Building Solutions constructed the covered parking and material storage structures.

2. Mar Building Solutions is the Butler Manufacturing representative for this area which is the manufacturer of the current structures.

3. The existing structures partially cover the City vehicles and equipment and partially cover our material storage area.

4. The expanded structures will cover most of the remaining City vehicles and all of our dry storage area.

5. The existing site and structures were designed with this expansion in mind.

Proposed Committee Motion:

I move to recommend to the City Council approval of an Ordinance approving an agreement for the construction of a metal building expansion for Water Utilities with Mar Building Solutions (sole source) in the amount of $544,199.00, and authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement for the same.
